Introduction

Introduction

NGO Federation of Nepalese Indigenous Nationalities (NGO-FONIN) is an umbrella Organization of more than hundred Indigenous Peoples Organizations (IPOs) and Non Governmental Organizations (IPNGOs) led or managed by Indigenous Peoples. It is registered in Kathmandu District Administration Office in 2061BS and affiliated with Social Welfare Council. It is engaged in empowering marginalized indigenous peoples in Mountain, Hill, Terai/Madhesh from Far-East to Far-West in the country.

 

The Federation is established to increase a meaningful participation of indigenous peoples in the mainstream of nation building and national development accessing in decision making process. It is committed to facilitate for empowering to discriminated, endangered, highly marginalized, marginalized and excluded indigenous peoples who are officially not recognized as indigenous peoples despite of having distinct identity with their own mother language, culture, social structure, historical as well as ancestral land and territories accompanying the spirit and self-determination of being a distinct indigenous groups.

 

NGO-FONIN respects the norms, values and procedure of democracy and follows Right Based Approach maintaining institutional good governance.

Membership:

Every organization representing to specific indigenous groups and led or managed by indigenous nationalities can be a member organization.

Sustainable Leadership

Every three year there will be a National Convention and the elected representatives of different member organizations or district chapters will elect a new Executive Committee for three year to implement the programs and plan approved by Annual General Meeting.

Management

A team of management led by Executive Director with program, finance and administrative is responsible for implementing the programs and budget approved by Annual General Meeting.

Finance:

One Core Bank of Account and other Program/Project Based Bank Accounts has been opened. The former is operated by compulsory signature of Treasurer and either or of the Chairperson or General Secretary. The later is operated by compulsory signature of Finance Officer and either or of the Executive Director and the Treasurer.

Strategic and Operational Plan

NGO-FONIN is guided by its vision, mission, goal, objectives stated in the Strategic and Operational Plan.

The Working Approach

A collaborative decision making approach has been adopted with the belief on 'Indigenous Peoples must have the Rights to Self-Management' so that the indigenous peoples, by themselves manage to conduct the activities of empowerment of their rights-holder community for positive change. The Federation is committed to play a role of coordination and facilitation for implementation of the required activities.
